A tropical storm made landfall in central Vietnam on Friday, killing one person, while seven people died in a lightning strike in neighboring Cambodia.
The lightning struck a wooden stilt house under which people were eating in Cambodia’s northwestern Battambang province on Thursday evening. The dead included a family of four and three other relatives, said Keo Vy, the spokesperson for the National Committee for Disaster Management.

Southeast Asia could potentially face more severe consequences of climate change than other parts of the world, according to the business and economic research arm of consulting firm McKinsey.
The research outlines the scope of potential impact climate change may have on Southeast Asian nations and South Asia countries, including Bangladesh, India and Pakistan.
Between $2.8 trillion and $4.7 trillion of GDP in Asia on average will be at risk annually from a loss of effective outdoor working hours because of hotter temperature and more humid environment by 2050, the report said.
