Right: Hun Sen, Cambodian premier and former Khmer Rouge commander before fleeing to Vietnam in the late 1970's and returned with the Vietnamese troops to ouster the communist Khmer Rouge from power. Communist Vietnam installed Hun Sen and associates as new leaders on January 7, 1979.
France colonized Cambodia (and Kampuchea Krom) for about 100 years. After World War II, France gave Kampuchea Krom, territory of Cambodia, to Vietnam on June 4, 1949.
