On the morning of October 21, 2010, the Buddhist monks, devotees, and members of Wat Samakkiraingsey, and the Khmer Kampuchea Krom associations held a protest within the compound of Wat Samakkiraingsey on the appointment of a new abbot (Chief monk of the temple) to succeed the late Ven. Vijaratanapanna Maha Yoeung Sin, who recently passed away on September 28, B.E.2554, A.D.2010.

This new appointment is carried out by the Phnom Penh Buddhist Department in secrecy without consulting with the Buddhist monks, devotees and members of Wat Samakkiraingsey, or the Khmer Kampuchea Krom associations.

The protest commences at 7 o’clock in the morning and lasted until 10:30a.m. by the Buddhist monks, devotees and members of Wat Samakkiraingsey, and the Khmer Kampuchea Krom associations. They vehemently refuse to recognize the new abbot appointment.
